How do I create a SMART goal?

The questions we ask for a goal address all parts of a S.M.A.R.T. goal.

1. Click on Careers in the navigation bar

2. Click on Portfolio

3. Click on the Goals tab

4. Click on New Goal

5. Specify the name of your goal

For this example, we will use "Run a 5k"

6. Click on Start Goal

AI will automatically populate most of the details for the goal for you. You will see this in the next steps.

7. Specify What do you want to achieve?

This is essentially just the name of your goal that you specified in the last step. This gives you the opportunity to change the name.

8. Specify a description of the goal

This is an AI generated suggested field. You can modify this or add additional information about the goal as you see fit. This helps to address the "S" (Specific) in SMART.

9. Specify which area of your life does this goal relate to?

This is an AI suggested field. Choose the most relevant selection

10. Specify why achieving this goal important to you

This is where you will explain why the goal is important to you and why you are motivated to complete this goal. This helps to address the "S" (Specific) in SMART.

11. Specify how does this goal connects to your bigger plans or other goals

This helps to address the "R" (Relevant) in SMART.

12. Specify when you want to achieve this goal by

This helps address the "T" (Time-bound) in SMART.

13. Specify what the smaller steps or tasks you can take to reach your main goal

These tasks should be achievable one time. So, a bad example of a task would be something that you would do every day because you can't mark it as complete since you will do it again the next day. To add a new task, start typing in the box directly above the list. When you are ready to add it to the list, simply click enter. This helps to address the "M" (Measurable) in SMART.

14. Specify some strategies you will use to meet your goal

This is where you specify the tasks that you will be doing on a regular basis like "get 7-8 hours of sleep each night". To add a new task, start typing in the box directly above the list. When you are ready to add it to the list, simply click enter. This helps to address the "A" (Attainable) in SMART.

15. Specify who can support you with this goal

Here you will list anyone in your support network that can help you obtain your goal and how they will contribute. This helps address the "A" (Attainable) in SMART.

16. Specify how will you measure your success

Here you can list all of the ways you will measure what success means when completing this goal. This helps to address the "M" (Measurable) in SMART.

17. Specify how often will you check in on your progress

This is where you specify how often you should reflect on this goal and complete a new reflection. This helps to address the "M" (Measurable) in SMART.

18. Click on Add

19. Now you will see your new goal in the list of your goals
