How report filters and date ranges work
Filters narrow a report to just what you need. Here's how blank filters, date ranges, grade level, graduation year and multi-select filters behave.

Blank means "everything"
If you leave a filter empty, the report doesn't narrow by it. For example, leaving Grade Level blank includes every grade. Leaving both dates blank includes all records, however old.
Filters marked as required must be filled in before the report will run.
Date ranges
Most reports include both the start date and the end date you pick. If you choose August 1 to May 31, records from May 31 are included.
A few reports handle dates differently. Their articles call this out under Good to know.
"Active between" vs. "started between"
Work-based learning experiences can last weeks or months, so many WBL reports ask whether an experience was active during your dates, not just whether it started then.
- Active between August 1 and December 31 includes an experience that started in June and is still going.
- Started between August 1 and December 31 includes only experiences that began in that window.
The Student-Based Experience Export offers both options, plus a third set of dates for its hour and pay totals.
Grade level vs. graduation year
- Grade Level uses each student's current grade.
- Graduation Year uses the class each student is expected to graduate with, which stays the same from year to year.
Choose graduation year when you want to follow the same group of students across school years.
Picking more than one option
Filters that let you pick several options include records that match any of them. Choosing grades 11 and 12 includes students in either grade.
