Getting started with reports

Why your results depend on your selected school and class

The school and class you have selected at the top of the page carry over into every report you run. If a report has fewer students than you expected, this is the first thing to check.

How it works

When you click Generate, the report saves your current selections and uses them to decide which students to include.

Your selection

Students included

A specific school

Students linked to that school

A specific class

Students in that class

All Schools, or no class selected

Every student you normally have access to

Changing your school clears your class selection, so check both before you run a report.

Your access still applies

Even with "All Schools" selected, most reports only include students you're allowed to see. For most staff, that means students who:

  • are in a class you teach or are assigned to,

  • are in a student group you belong to, or

  • have you as their assigned counselor.

Administrators can usually see every student. Your district's settings can narrow this further. For example, a district can limit counselors to their assigned students only.

Students who have moved

Many reports also include students who used to be in the school or class you selected. This lets you report on past activity, such as hours earned earlier in the year by a student who has since changed programs.

Reports that don't use your selection

A few reports cover your whole district no matter what you've selected. Each report's article notes when this is the case under Good to know.
