Can I merge industry certifications and migrate their progress?
Merging combines two industry certifications into a single record. All of the student grades, progress notes, and (optionally) class and course alignments tied to the source certification are moved over to the destination certification. This is useful when you discover duplicate certifications, or when a state certification is released that should replace a local one you've already been tracking.

Note: Merging cannot be automatically reversed. Once a merge completes, the moved grades and notes are owned by the destination certification. Review the preview screen carefully before confirming.
Before You Begin
You can only merge into a certification, not split one apart. Pick the certification you want to keep as the destination.
State-provided certifications (those with a State Approved badge) cannot be archived as part of a merge because they aren't user-managed. They can still be used as the source if you want to move their grades into a different certification.
If a student has grades on both the source and destination certification, only one will be kept. The merge automatically picks the grade with the more recent Date Achieved. If both grades have the same date (or both are missing a date), the destination grade is kept.
Merges run in the background as a single transaction. If anything fails partway through, the entire merge is rolled back and no data is changed.
Step 1: Open the Merge Tool
Go to Industry Certifications.
Find the certification you want to merge from (the source).
Click the row's Action menu and choose Merge.

The Merge Industry Certification modal opens with the source certification shown at the top.
Step 2: Configure the Merge
The merge configuration modal walks you through three decisions: where the grades are going, which grades to move, and what else to clean up.

Layout Overview
Source and Destination Badges
Every certification in the dropdown and header shows a colored badge so you know what kind it is:
Choose What to Migrate
Pick one of the two option cards:
If you pick Date Range, two date fields appear. Both dates are inclusive — a grade earned on the start date or end date is included.
"Anything else?" Options
When you're satisfied with your choices, click Preview Merge.
Step 3: Review the Preview
The confirmation modal shows exactly what will happen if you confirm. Nothing has been changed yet.

Layout Overview
The preview is organized top to bottom:
Header strip — Source on top, downward arrow, destination on the bottom. Both rows include the Local / State Approved badge so you can double-check the direction of the merge.
Summary chips — At-a-glance counts of what will change.
Filter pills + search — Narrow the table to a specific category of grade or look up a specific student.
Student table — One row per affected student, with the action that will be taken.
Summary Chips
Chips with a value of 0 are hidden, so you only see what's actually being affected.
Filter Pills
The pills above the table let you narrow the view. Pills with a value of 0 are hidden.
The search box filters the visible rows by student name. Filtering and search work together.
Student Table
Each row represents one student who has a grade affected by the merge.
Note: Students whose grades fall outside your selected date range (when using Date Range) won't appear here, and their grades will stay attached to the source.
If the table is empty, no grades match your current configuration — usually because your date range is too narrow or the source has no grades.
Step 4: Confirm the Merge
Review the header, chips, and table one more time.
If anything looks wrong, click Back to return to the configuration modal and adjust your settings.
When you're ready, click Confirm.
The merge runs immediately. When it finishes, you'll see a confirmation message summarizing how many grades and notes were moved, how many duplicates were resolved, and whether the source was archived.
If anything goes wrong, the entire merge is automatically rolled back — no partial changes are saved — and you'll be shown an error message so you can try again.
